Rod & Chris: Unqualified and unsupervised

Episode 1

Episode 1 is where it all starts—our stories, our why, and a real look at life after loss (with a few laughs along the way). No scripts. No filters. Just two guys figuring it out as we go.

APRIL 6 Episode 2

Pastor Willie Rosin joins us to share what it was like to officiate Janice’s service as both a pastor and a friend—real talk on grief, showing up, and honoring her with moments that were uniquely her.

APRIL 14 Episode 3

Mary Lynn joins us to share her story of sudden loss and the journey that followed. Through her lens as a writer, nature lover, and student of Zen, she offers a calm, honest perspective on grief, growth, and finding a way forward after everything changes.

APRIL 21 Episode 4

This one’s special.

Ed Halbach is the reason this show exists… so yeah, we figured we should probably have him on.

We talk life, loss, sarcasm, and the kind of real conversations that don’t come with a script. Ed brings the wit, the honesty, and a few laughs along the way—because sometimes that’s how you get through the hard stuff.

No experts. Just experience. And this time… a little origin story.

Welcome to the club we didn’t want to join.

APRIL 28 Episode 5

Fr. Josh sits down with us to talk about grief from both sides—his own personal losses and what it’s like to lead services for people he deeply cared about. It’s an honest look at what it means to carry grief, support others through it, and keep moving forward when it all feels heavy.

May 5 Episode 6

Just Rod & Chris this week.  Sometimes there’s no expert, no plan, and no easy answer. In this episode, we talk about what happens when life throws you something you didn’t see coming—and how you find a way forward, one step at a time.

May 12 Episode 7

Mindy Coe joins us with a career that spans band director, Navy weapons instructor, state trooper, and police captain. We talk about her experiences as a first responder—showing up on people’s worst days—and what that reality teaches you about resilience, perspective, and carrying the weight of those moments.

May 19 Episode 8

In this powerful and deeply personal episode of Rod & Chris: Unqualified and Unsupervised, Christina Maulsby shares the story of raising her two sons—one living with lifelong neurological disabilities caused by shaken baby syndrome, and the other navigating life on the autism spectrum. Together, we talk about grief, resilience, caregiving, and the very real “loss of future” that comes when life doesn’t unfold the way you imagined. Honest, emotional, and unfiltered—this is a conversation about finding strength, purpose, and hope in the middle of life’s hardest moments.

COMING: May 26 Episode 9

In this emotional and inspiring episode of Rod & Chris: Unqualified and Unsupervised, Caroline Scammell-Robertie shares her journey through unimaginable loss—the death of her child, the loss of her husband, and the challenge of learning how to keep living after everything changes. Through heartbreak, grief, and rebuilding, Caroline opens up about resilience, finding purpose again, and what it means to continue moving forward while carrying loss with you every day. Honest, raw, and hopeful, this conversation is a reminder that life can still hold meaning even after profound tragedy.

June 2 Episode 10

Episode 10 of Rod & Chris: Unqualified and Unsupervised features Mark Kuhn — North Iowa farmer, former State Representative, and creator of a Wimbledon-style grass tennis court built in the middle of farm country that became known around the world.  After losing his son to suicide, the court took on a new meaning as a memorial honoring his son’s life and legacy. In this powerful episode, Mark shares his story of grief, loss, healing, and continuing to move forward.  Content Warning: This episode contains discussion of suicide and grief.  If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide or needs support, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
